Animal Noir launch day!!!!

+ recent changes you may not know about

Morning darklings,

It’s the dayyyyyyyyy!

The anthropomorphic noir baby Animal Noir, filled with unique mystery stories a la Agatha in a timeline that spans over a century with occasional artwork by me, is out today! Have you bought it on my website? Or somewhere else? The paperback should be available everywhere by the time you get this email. If not, sigh at Ingram. I’ll send out the link again on Friday, just in case. ❤️

I cannot tell you how proud I am of all the hard work the authors put it, all the fun I had making their characters, and all the frustrations and hoops the big publishing places put me through to get us here today. Truly, this would be such a long blog post. (Okay, turns out I like the word blog better all around—feels less focused on buy this now.)

Instead, let’s simply focus on the authors and tonight. Also, if this isn’t your jam, please read the next section of the blog post anyhow. It’s super important—especially if you didn’t notice anything visually different about this email.

Without more outta me, the authors you should read everything from:

also…

I’m not the only artist in the bunch, darklings! Ben Curl made clay figurines he’s sharing and selling locally, Pen Anderson is also an illustrator (though there isn’t Animal Noir art, it needed to be shared), and Megan Lee Bees drew her character and shared it with the world!

Is this not just incredible? I mean… not only the art but that she was moved to do this. I love that this anthology has happened, that the authors have been so excited about their characters, the universe, and the vibes.

ALSO ALSO….

TONIGHT! Will I see you online on Vintage Books’ Youtube at 7pm PST? We should have almost all the authors of Animal Noir sharing their work. I’ll be there talking about how thrilled I am then stepping aside. This is their moment.

*We also added a second in-person event. The Bold event on March 6th at 7pm is just around the corner, and now there is March 28th at Salon Rouge (that cool speakeasy Joyce’s book launch was at). So if you want to support the authors, show up to one or all of the events—they will be different (vibes, readers, questions, etc.)—and buy the book!

You can find these on the updates and events page on my website and add them directly from that calendar to yours! So fancy, right?

and finally

Some of you know I’ve switched to a fully me-run website, hosted on Ghost. You’ve already gotten the emails from [email protected] and/or [email protected]. For you, not much but the letterhead and signature has changed. And nothing else will. In fact, fewer people will be involved now. Just me and you. No middle company holding your information or changing the UI or forcing you to visit a website to listen to the newsletter—it’s baked in!

But it’s come to my attention that some of you aren’t seeing the recent content, which is sad.

So I’m sending you this from beehiiv today. Please check your promotions and your spam. Friday, I announced The Little Periodical. The Friday before, I talked a bit more about the events for Animal Noir and my feelings about The Substance. Also memes and other updates, such as info on the new choices on how often you hear from me. If you didn’t receive those, I got filtered out.

Please whitelist the two emails addresses I mentioned and make sure to add my newsletter (Just Another Haunted Body) to your preferred inbox category, whatever works, so you don’t miss out on what’s coming. I’ve got stories, essays, a Kickstarter, a creative Dear Abby, and more in the coming months!

Until next time, harness the Little darknesses and embrace the Little things.
